Cotter Bridge Restoration

Having to conform to strict regulations for strength and design, Premier Precast manufactured approximately seventy bridge base units to replace the old timber bridge deck over the Murrumbidgee River.

As this bridge is the main link between Canberra and the Brindabella Mountains, this project was given a thirteen week completion time, with the manufacturing process only given seven weeks, due to the total closure of the bridge.

The units were manufactured in three different sizes to suit the existing water pipe brackets. Unit widths were consistent at 5.2 meters, with lengths of 1.7 meters, 2.2 metres, and 2.4 metres.

The smallest of the base units contained 800kg of reinforcement, 2m3 of 40mpa concrete with PVC pipe to run traffic control cables.

Delivery required 18 semi-trailer loads to be well co-ordinated for installation of sequential numbered units from one side of the bridge to the other.
